about freedom bloc and freedom roc

The Freedom BLOC/ROC is a Black-led organization in Ohio focused on achieving social, racial, and economic justice. Recognizing economic hardship, environmental decline, and political division as critical challenges, the organization aims to build power and create change through principled struggle.

The Freedom Bloc's mission centers on developing Black leadership and political infrastructure within Black communities. This is achieved through civic education and engagement, leadership development, and economic reinvestment. Their approach involves community listening and collective power to drive initiatives that demand change and advance justice. They work to amplify Black voices, cultivate spaces for dialogue and action, and build a supportive network for Black-led organizations.

The Freedom ROC, as a 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organization, focuses on creating systemic change for a more equitable society by uplifting the voices of directly impacted Black individuals to build politically educated grassroots community political power.

The organization builds Black progressive community and political power through Healing-Informed Care, Voter Education, Voter Engagement, and Leadership Development, organizing within communities around key issues and candidates.
5 year impact report 2019-2024
LETTER FROM THE FOUNDER AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Since 2019, The Freedom BLOC/ROC has been making history and shaping it. We've witnessed profound changes in Ohio and our communities, reinforcing our mission to build today's leaders for tomorrow's Akron.
From higher death rates and unemployment to limited access to benefits, Black people and communities of color have faced disproportionate impacts. Our children, already underserved, are falling further behind. Yet, we fight on, knowing that our city's future cannot echo its past.
Our inaugural impact report marks five years of confronting systemic racism and advancing racial equity. It tells a story of resilience, community mobilization, and our commitment to addressing the root causes of inequality.
As I reflect on being Black in America in 2024, I see our history, courage, and power—and I am hopeful. No matter the challenges ahead, The Freedom BLOC/ROC will continue to lead the fight for social change and racial justice across Ohio. I invite you to join us on this journey.
Fighting Forward,
Raymond Greene Jr
